Privacy Policy

The short version

Your reselling data stays on your computer. Scout and Scale run on your Mac or PC. Your inboxes, email app passwords, emails, orders, addresses, sales, eBay sign-in, Discord links and photos are stored there and never sent to us.
We do collect a small amount of data about you: your email address and purchase record when you buy, and your license key with an anonymous computer ID when you activate.
AI. ScoutNScale doesn't use artificial intelligence to read or process your data.
We don't sell your data, share it for advertising, or use advertising trackers.
You can have your data deleted any time by emailing [email protected].

Who we are

ScoutNScale makes the Scout and Scale desktop apps and runs scoutnscale.com. In this policy, "we" and "us" means ScoutNScale. You can reach us at [email protected] about anything in this policy.

The data we collect

When you buy

Stripe, our payment processor, collects your payment details on its own checkout page. We never see or store your full card number.
From Stripe we receive your email address, your plan (lifetime or monthly), the purchase date, and Stripe's IDs for your customer record, payment and subscription.
We create a license key and store it with that purchase record.

When you activate and use the apps

The apps send our license server your license key, an anonymous ID for your computer and the app's version number. The computer ID is a one-way scrambled code: it can't be turned back into your computer's serial number or name.
We record when each computer was activated and when it last checked in (about twice a day while it's online), so one key works on one computer at a time and can be moved to a new one.
About once an hour the apps check scoutnscale.com for updates. That check only tells our server the app's version number and whether it's running on a Mac or Windows PC, nothing about you.

When you contact us or visit the website

If you email us, we keep the email and our reply so we can help you.
Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) handles the technical details your browser sends, such as your IP address, for security and to deliver the pages. We don't use them to identify you.
scoutnscale.com doesn't set cookies and doesn't use analytics, session recording or advertising trackers. It hosts its own fonts and images, so loading a page doesn't contact any other company.

What stays on your computer

Everything you set up and track in the apps is stored only on your computer, in your ScoutNScale data folder:

Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/ScoutNScale/Data
Windows: %LOCALAPPDATA%\ScoutNScale\Data

That includes your inboxes and email app passwords, the order emails Scout reads, orders, tracking numbers and shipping addresses, sales, inventory, eBay sign-in, Discord webhook links and bot settings, proxies, Snapshot photos, settings and logs. We have no copy of any of it and can't see it.

The phone app is served from your own computer over your Wi-Fi (or your own Tailscale network). It doesn't go through our servers.

What the apps connect to for you

To do their job, the apps connect directly from your computer to services you've chosen, using your own accounts. These connections don't pass through us:

Your email providers (for example Gmail, iCloud or Outlook): Scout signs in with the app passwords you enter and reads store emails about your orders. It only reads mail; it never sends, moves or deletes it.
eBay: Scale uses the eBay sign-in you connect to read your listings, sales, offers and messages, and looks at eBay's public sold listings for market prices.
Discord: alerts are posted to the Discord channel and bot you set up. Messages you send to Discord are covered by Discord's privacy policy.
Proxies you add, if any.
Google Fonts: ScoutNScale 1.2.9 and earlier load their typeface from Google, which receives your IP address when it delivers the font. From the next update on, the fonts are built into the apps and Google isn't contacted. This website already hosts its own fonts.
Carrier sites (UPS, USPS, FedEx and others) only open when you click a tracking link.

Artificial intelligence (AI)

ScoutNScale doesn't use artificial intelligence or machine learning to process your data. Scout reads order emails with fixed rules that run on your computer, and Scale's matching and pricing work the same way. None of your data is sent to an AI service or used to train any AI model. The apps don't include an AI chatbot.

Cookies and tracking

Our website doesn't use cookies, analytics, session recording, advertising pixels or any other tracking, so there's nothing to consent to and no cookie banner.
Stripe's checkout and Manage monthly plan pages are run by Stripe and use Stripe's own cookies to process payments securely and prevent fraud. See Stripe's privacy policy.
The phone app stores one small cookie in your phone's browser holding the private pairing key, so it stays signed in to your own computer. It's only ever sent to your computer, never to us.
The apps themselves don't use analytics, crash reporting or tracking of any kind.

Companies that handle data for us

We use these service providers. Each only gets what it needs to do its job:

Stripe processes payments and runs the page where you manage or cancel a monthly plan. It receives your payment details, email, name and billing country or ZIP code.
Cloudflare hosts scoutnscale.com, the downloads and our license server, and forwards email sent to @scoutnscale.com addresses.
Resend sends our emails to you, such as your license key and renewal reminders. It receives your email address and the email's contents.
Google provides our support mailbox (and the font used by ScoutNScale 1.2.9 and earlier).
Discord runs our community server, if you choose to join it.
Buy Me a Coffee handles optional tips if you click the tip button on some of our pages. The button itself is hosted on our site, so Buy Me a Coffee only hears from you if you click it.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We'd only disclose it if the law required us to.

How we use your data

To deliver your license key, activate the apps and check that your license is valid.
To keep a key working on one computer at a time, and to let you move it to a new one.
To send you emails about your purchase, including a reminder before your monthly plan renews.
To answer your support questions and prevent fraud or key sharing.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep your purchase and license record while your license exists, so your key keeps working and we can help you if you lose it.
When you move your key to a new computer, the old computer's ID is removed.
To delete your data, email [email protected] from the address you bought with. Within 30 days we delete your license record, computer IDs and support emails. Deleting the record turns off your key. Stripe keeps its own payment records, including your agreement to the terms at checkout, for as long as the law requires.
To delete what's on your computer, uninstall ScoutNScale, then delete the data folder listed above. Uninstalling alone keeps the folder in case you reinstall.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, by emailing [email protected]. We'll answer within 30 days and won't treat you differently for asking. Depending on where you live (for example California, the EU or the UK), you may have other rights under local law, including the right to complain to your data protection authority. Where those laws apply, we handle your purchase data to fulfil our agreement with you, and your license and support data for our legitimate interest in running the license system and preventing misuse.

Security

All connections to our website, downloads and license server use HTTPS.
License tokens are digitally signed, and our server's keys are never included in the apps.
The only public storage we run holds the installers anyone can download. Nothing about you is stored there.
Your email passwords and account sign-ins never leave your computer, so they can't be exposed on our side.

Monthly plan renewals

The $4 monthly plan renews automatically every month until you cancel. At checkout you're asked to agree to that, and we keep a record that you agreed for at least three years (or one year after your plan ends, if that's longer), as the law requires. We email you a reminder before each renewal. You can cancel any time online from Manage monthly plan, and it keeps working until the end of the month you've paid for. The lifetime license is a one-time payment and never renews.

Children

ScoutNScale is for adults running a reselling business. It isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we'll also post in our Discord or email buyers.
